Funding by USGS CAP Grant
The original pilot project was geared toward the Suwannee River Water Management District. It concentrated on the NSDI data layers. The project was funded by a USGS CAP grant through the Florida Institute of Government with technical support by the Florida Resources and Environmental Analysis Center (FREAC) of the Florida State University.
Florida GIS Data is Available for Download
There is a significant amount of GIS data being gathered in Florida, by various organizations and it is retained in a host of important service centers. The purpose of this site is help people find what they need and how to access it by serving as a locator and point system to geospatial data in Florida. The purpose is customer service to the public business community and to increase use of the many hosting services sharing GIS data in Florida.

The goal is to host the metadata, which is information about the operational data, and provide recognition to the organizations that own the data as the appropriate data steward. For customer usability links are provided to the location of the data and contact information to an individual or organization that can provide more information or facilitate data delivery. If organizations have operational data they are willing to share to the general public but are not positioned to provide web delivery, then upon request, the Florida GIS Clearinghouse will be pleased to host the metadata and the data on our servers.
